East Africa Drought Disaster Events
Burundi (BUR)
- Period: 2021-2022 Drought
- Impact: 1.4 million people (12% of population) became food insecure
- Areas: Eastern provinces severely affected, particularly Kirundo, Muyinga, and Cankuzo
- Agricultural Impact: 63% decline in bean production, with maize and sorghum also affected
- Response: WFP provided food assistance to 40,000 vulnerable people in April 2022

Djibouti (DJI)
- Period: 2021-2023 Drought
- Impact: 194,000 people faced food insecurity as of October 2022 (56% increase from February)
- Economic Effects: Inflation reached 6.1% in September 2022, food prices rose dramatically
- Response: WFP expanded assistance from 32,874 people in April to 40,355 people by October 2022

Eritrea (ERI)
- Period: 2021-2023 Drought
- Impact: Increased food insecurity, particularly in rural communities, significant water scarcity

Sudan (SDN)

Tanzania (TZA)
- Period: 2022-2023 Drought
